Glud & Horsens
In May 2008, I traveled to Denmark to meet some cousins and to visit the places where our ancestors lived.
Abelone lived in this house with her parents, Niels Christensen & Anne Marie Andersdatter.
Abelone's grandparents, Anders Jensen & Else Marie Mikkelsdatter lived here.
The above 3 pictures of of Braa Molle.  It was a mill and is where Else Marie Mikkelsdatter lived.  It is completely restored as the original mill was destroyed in a fire.
To the left is the Glud Church where Dorthea, Nielsine & Morten were christened.
To the right is a picture of the alter inside the Glud Church.
This is an aerial view of the Glud Church.
Abelone's father, Niels Christensen, lived in Horsens.  He was christened at Vor Frelsor Church in Horsens.  This is Jorgensen's Hotel which was a private home  when it was built in 1777.
This is the main downtown area of Horsens. In the center to the left is Jorgensen's Hotel and in the background you can see the spire of Vor Frelsor Church.  Niels Christensen's parents, Christen Sorensen & Apelone Niellsdatter were married there.
Vor Frelsor Church.
Niels Christensen lived on Gronnegade street in Horsens.  Today it is filled with small shops and restaurants.  It is a very cute street.  I ate lunch there while in Horsens.
This is another view of Gronnegade Street.  I have a  copy of 3 different receipts from shops, in Horsens, where Abelone shopped.  All of the streets are in this area.

In Aarhus, I stayed with our cousin, Birthe Laursen.  Here I am at Den Gamle By which is an open air museum.  This is one of the many places that Birthe took me to visit.
This is the Glud Museum.  It is a very lovely and interesting museum.  It is full of old Danish buildings and historical artifacts about Danish culture.  Anna Laursen lives  about a block away from this museum and Anders Jensen's home was across the street from the museum.
Anna & Svend drove me all over the Glud area .  They showed me many places where our ancestors had lived.  As above, most of the homes are no longer there.

Abelone's ancestors lived in this area.  It is a very beautiful place and is also close to Samsoe Island which is where Hans' family lived.
